Amish Steak (Print Version)

Ingredients:

01 - 1 lb Ground Beef, raw.
02 - 1 cup Milk, for binding.
03 - 1 cup Cracker Crumbs, finely crushed.
04 - 1 tsp Salt, for seasoning.
05 - ¼ tsp Black Pepper, freshly ground.
06 - 1 small Onion, finely chopped.
07 - 1 (10.5 oz) can Cream of Mushroom Soup.
08 - 1 (10.5 oz) can Water or Broth.

Instructions:

01 - In a bowl, combine ground beef, milk, cracker crumbs, salt, pepper, and onion until well mixed.
02 - Shape the beef mixture into a loaf. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
03 - Slice the chilled loaf into ½-inch thick slices or patties. Lightly dredge in flour.
04 - In a skillet, pan-fry slices over medium-high heat until browned on both sides.
05 - In a bowl, whisk together the mushroom soup and water/broth.
06 - Place the browned slices in a baking dish and pour the mushroom gravy over them. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour until hot and thickened.
07 - Serve over mashed potatoes or egg noodles, smothered in gravy.

Notes:

01 - This is a classic Amish-inspired comfort dish, budget-friendly and easy to prepare.
02 - For best results, refrigerate the beef loaf overnight before slicing and frying.
03 - Pairs well with mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a complete meal.
