01 -
Make a batch of Rice Krispie Treat mixture using 5 tablespoons butter, 5 cups mini marshmallows, and 5 cups Rice Krispie cereal. Color it red using the Wilton food coloring.
02 -
Make another batch using the same measurements (5 tablespoons butter, 5 cups marshmallows, 5 cups cereal) and leave it white without any coloring.
03 -
Press the red Rice Krispie Treat mixture into one cookie sheet in a thin, even layer. Press the white mixture into another cookie sheet of the same size. Let both set for 15 to 30 minutes.
04 -
Once set, cut each sheet of Rice Krispie Treats into three equal rectangular pieces. These will be your flag stripes.
05 -
Layer the red and white strips, alternating colors and starting with a red layer at the bottom. Stack 2 red strips and 2 white strips alternating to create the main body of the flag.
06 -
Cut the remaining red and white Rice Krispie Treat sheets in half. Stack three of these half-pieces (red/white/red) to create the stripes that will appear to the right of the blue section of the flag. Place this stack on top of the main stack on the right-hand side.
07 -
Make a batch of blue Rice Krispie Treats using 3 tablespoons butter, 3 cups marshmallows, and 3 cups cereal. Color it blue with the food coloring. Let it cool for about 5 to 10 minutes.
08 -
Butter your fingers and mold the blue Rice Krispie Treat mixture into the open area on the upper left side of your flag design to represent the canton (the blue section with stars).
09 -
Allow the entire Rice Krispie flag construction to cool completely before cutting, about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
10 -
Using a hot butcher knife, carefully cut the cooled Rice Krispie flag into 12 to 15 individual treats. A hot knife helps prevent the treats from sticking and crumbling.
11 -
Trim a little bit off the left and right edges to neaten up the edges and create a more polished-looking flag shape. Serve and enjoy!
