Apple Fritter Waffle Donuts (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Waffle Donut Batter

01 - 1/2 cup all purpose flour
02 - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
03 - 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
04 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
05 - 1 teaspoon baking powder
06 - 1/4 teaspoon table salt
07 - 1 tablespoon cornstarch
08 - 1 large egg
09 - 1/3 cup milk
10 - 1/2 tablespoon oil
11 - 1 1/2 cups shredded apples

→ Glaze

12 - 2 cups powdered sugar
13 - 3-4 tablespoons milk
14 - 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
15 - cinnamon sugar, for sprinkling

# Instructions:

01 - Turn on your waffle iron and let it heat up while you make the batter.
02 - In a bowl, stir together the flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch. Add the egg, milk, and oil, then whisk everything together until smooth.
03 - Gently fold the shredded apples into the batter, making sure they're spread throughout evenly.
04 - Spray your waffle iron with nonstick spray. Drop the batter by the tablespoon onto the iron. Cook for 3-5 minutes depending on how hot your iron gets. A small waffle maker usually needs about 5 minutes per batch.
05 - Transfer the cooked waffle donuts to a wire rack and let them cool down completely.
06 - Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla together until smooth. Dip each waffle donut into the glaze, flip it over to coat both sides, and let the extra drip off.
07 - If you want, sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top while the glaze is still wet. Let them sit until the glaze sets.

# Notes:

01 - Cooking time varies based on your waffle iron's temperature. Start checking at 3 minutes for regular irons, or go the full 5 minutes for mini waffle makers.
02 - Use any kind of apple you like. Granny Smith adds tartness while Honeycrisp or Gala give you extra sweetness.
03 - The cornstarch in the batter helps create a crispier exterior on the waffle donuts.
04 - Let the donuts cool completely before glazing, otherwise the glaze will just slide off.
05 - These are best eaten the day you make them, but you can store them in an airtight container for a day or two.
