Cheesy Tater Tots BBQ Sausage (Print Version)

Crispy baked tater tots piled with melted cheddar and smoky barbecue-glazed sausage, ready in under an hour.

# Ingredients:

→ For the tots and sausage

01 - 1 bag (32 oz / 900 g) frozen tater tots
02 - 1 tablespoon (15 g) butter
03 - 1 lb (450 g) smoked sausage (kielbasa or andouille), sliced into 1/4-inch half-moons
04 - 3/4 cup (180 ml) barbecue sauce

→ For the topping

05 - 2 cups (225 g) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
06 - 1 cup (115 g) shredded Monterey Jack cheese
07 - 1/4 cup (60 ml) barbecue sauce, for drizzling
08 - 2 green onions, thinly sliced

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Spread the frozen tots in a single layer on a sheet pan with space between them and bake for 20 to 22 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until deep golden and crisp.
02 - While the tots bake, melt the butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring only occasionally, until the edges are browned and caramelized.
03 - Lower the heat and stir in 3/4 cup of the barbecue sauce. Simmer for 1 to 2 minutes until the sausage is glossy and well coated, then remove from the heat.
04 - Transfer the baked tots to an oven-safe dish, or leave them on the sheet pan, and scatter the cheddar and Monterey Jack evenly over the top.
05 - Return the dish to the oven for 4 to 6 minutes, until the cheese is fully melted and bubbling at the edges.
06 - Pile the glazed barbecue sausage over the cheesy tots, drizzle with the remaining 1/4 cup barbecue sauce, and scatter the green onions on top. Serve immediately while hot.

# Notes:

01 - Best served immediately while the tots are still crisp and the cheese is melted.
02 - Check sausage and barbecue sauce labels if you need the dish to be gluten-free, as some brands use wheat-based fillers or thickeners.
