Heat oven to 350°F and prep two 8x4 loaf pans.

Combine the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and pumpkin pie spice in a bowl.

Whisk together the canned pumpkin, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce or oil, eggs, and vanilla in a separate bowl.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix just until blended.

Gently fold in the chocolate chips, reserving some for topping.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pans and sprinkle the reserved chocolate chips on top.

Bake the loaves for 50-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the loaves cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them and let cool completely on a rack.
