01 -
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease a glass or ceramic baking dish - a 7x9 inch or 9x11 inch dish works great.
02 -
Separate each biscuit in half horizontally so you have 16 thin rounds. Line the bottom halves into your greased dish and set the top halves aside for later. Bake these bottom biscuits for about 5 minutes - just enough to give them a head start so they don't get soggy from the beef.
03 -
While the biscuits are baking, heat a little oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the ground beef, break it up with a spoon, and cook until thoroughly browned. Drain any excess grease from the pan.
04 -
Season the beef and onion mixture with your favorite seasonings - Montreal Steak seasoning, salt, pepper, and garlic powder all work great. Mix well.
05 -
Take the prebaked biscuits out of the oven. Spread the ground beef mixture evenly over the top. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the beef, then place the remaining uncooked biscuit halves directly on top.
06 -
Put the dish back in the oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the tops of the biscuits are golden brown.
07 -
Serve these warm on their own or with your favorite cheeseburger condiments like ketchup, mustard, pickles, or lettuce and tomato. These are like deconstructed cheeseburgers in biscuit form!
