Baked Ziti (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1 pound ziti or penne pasta.
02 - 1 pound Italian sausage.
03 - 1 medium onion, chopped.
04 - 4-5 cloves garlic, minced.
05 - 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning.
06 - 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes.
07 - 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes.
08 - 1 cup heavy cream.
09 - 1/2 teaspoon salt.
10 - Black pepper to taste.
11 - 1 teaspoon white sugar.
12 - 8 ounces ricotta cheese.
13 - 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese.
14 - 2 cups shredded mozzarella.

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat oven to 375F. Move rack to top third of oven.
02 - Cook ziti 2-3 minutes less than package directions in salted water. Drain.
03 - Cook sausage and onion until browned. Add garlic and seasonings, then tomatoes, cream, salt, pepper, and sugar.
04 - Mix pasta with sauce. Layer half in dish, add ricotta dollops, top with remaining pasta.
05 - Sprinkle with parmesan and mozzarella.
06 - Bake uncovered 20 minutes, then broil to brown cheese.

# Notes:

01 - Can use ground sausage or remove from casings.
02 - Sugar enhances tomato flavor but is optional.
03 - Can be made ahead and refrigerated.
