Pioneer Woman Cheeseburger Pie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Meat and Vegetables

01 - 1 large yellow onion, diced (about 1 cup)
02 - 1 pound lean ground beef
03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
04 - Freshly ground black pepper to taste
05 - Garlic powder to taste
06 - 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

→ Pie Batter

07 - 1/2 cup Bisquick baking mix (or see alternative below)
08 - 1 cup whole milk
09 - 2 large eggs

→ Bisquick Alternative

10 - 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
11 - 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
12 - 1/4 teaspoon salt

# Instructions:

01 - Heat your oven to 400°F and generously grease a 9-inch pie pan with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking.
02 - Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for about 3 minutes until it starts to soften. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until completely browned. Drain any excess grease.
03 - Season the beef mixture with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste. Spread this mixture evenly in your prepared pie pan, then sprinkle the shredded cheese over the top.
04 - In a medium bowl, whisk together the Bisquick mix (or flour mixture), milk, and eggs until completely smooth with no lumps remaining.
05 - Pour the batter evenly over the beef and cheese layer in the pie pan. The batter will settle around the filling. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
06 - Let the pie cool for 5 minutes before cutting to help it set up properly. Cut into wedges and serve warm with your favorite burger toppings or sides.

# Notes:

01 - This recipe magically creates its own crust as it bakes - the batter sinks to the bottom and rises around the sides.
02 - You can make your own Bisquick substitute by mixing flour, baking powder, and salt if you don't have the mix on hand.
03 - Serve with classic burger sides like pickles, ketchup, mustard, or a simple green salad.
04 - Leftovers reheat well in the microwave or oven and taste great the next day.
