# Ingredients:

01 - 2 tablespoons butter
02 - 4 garlic cloves, minced
03 - 2 cups heavy cream
04 - 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
05 - 1 teaspoon salt
06 - 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
07 - 2 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves
08 - 1 cup Gruyère cheese, freshly shredded

→ Assembly

09 - 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
10 - 1 tablespoon softened butter for dish
11 - 1 cup Gruyère cheese for topping
12 - Chopped chives for garnish (optional)

# Instructions:

01 - Sauté garlic in butter. Add cream, flour mixture, seasonings, and cheese until smooth.
02 - Arrange sliced potatoes in buttered dish, seasoning each layer.
03 - Pour cheese sauce over potatoes ensuring even coverage.
04 - Cover with foil and bake at 400°F for 1 hour 15 minutes.
05 - Top with remaining cheese, bake uncovered 5 minutes, then broil 3-5 minutes until golden.
