Ham Cheese Butter Biscuits (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Biscuit Base

01 - 2½ cups all-purpose flour
02 - 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
03 - 1½ tablespoons baking powder
04 - 1¾ cups buttermilk (plus extra if needed)

→ Savory Add-ins

05 - 2½ cups diced ham, cut into ½-inch cubes
06 - 1½ cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

→ Butter & Finishing

07 - ½ cup salted butter, melted
08 - Non-stick cooking spray or extra butter for greasing

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat your oven to 450°F and generously grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with cooking spray or butter.
02 - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and baking powder until well combined.
03 - Pour in the buttermilk and stir gently with a wooden spoon until a thick, sticky batter forms. If the dough seems too dry, add a bit more buttermilk.
04 - Gently fold the diced ham and shredded cheddar cheese into the batter, making sure they're evenly distributed throughout.
05 - Pour the melted butter into your prepared baking dish, making sure it coats the entire bottom. This creates a golden, crispy bottom crust.
06 - Carefully spread the biscuit dough evenly in the buttered pan, pressing it gently into the corners.
07 - Using a sharp knife, score the dough into 9 equal squares. This makes it easier to separate the biscuits after baking.
08 - Bake for 25-30 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through. If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil.
09 - Let the biscuits cool in the pan for 5 minutes before cutting and serving. Enjoy them warm with extra butter or a drizzle of honey.

# Notes:

01 - Don't overmix the batter - a few lumps are perfectly fine and will keep the biscuits tender
02 - The melted butter in the pan creates a deliciously crispy bottom crust
03 - These are best served warm but can be reheated in the oven the next day
04 - Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or as a side dish with soup or salad
