Steak with Cajun Shrimp Sauce (Print Version)

New York strip steak seared and served with shrimp in a creamy Cajun sauce made with heavy cream, Parmesan, Dijon mustard, garlic, and lemon juice.

# Ingredients:

→ For the Steak and Shrimp

01 - 1 lb New York strip steak
02 - 24 large shrimp, raw and deveined
03 - 3 tablespoons butter, divided

→ For the Cajun Cream Sauce

04 - 1 cup heavy cream
05 - 1/4 cup chicken broth
06 - 1/4 cup fresh Parmesan cheese, grated
07 - 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
08 - 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
09 - 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
10 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
11 - 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

# Instructions:

01 - Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the New York strip steak until lightly browned on both sides and cooked to your preferred level of doneness - about 4 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside to rest.
02 - Reduce the skillet heat to medium. Melt another tablespoon of butter and add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook until they're pink on both sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Remove the shrimp from the pan and set aside with the steak.
03 - In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of butter and sauté the minced garlic for about 1 minute until fragrant. Don't let it burn!
04 - Pour in the chicken broth, then add the heavy cream, Dijon mustard, and Cajun seasoning. Stir everything together well and bring the mixture to a boil. Let it simmer for about 1 minute to thicken slightly.
05 - Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the shredded Parmesan cheese until it's fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
06 - Add the lemon juice, chopped parsley, and the cooked shrimp back into the sauce. Stir to combine everything. Slice the steak if you like, then serve it with the shrimp and Cajun cream sauce spooned generously over the top. This surf and turf is restaurant-worthy!

# Notes:

01 - Let the steak rest for a few minutes after cooking - this helps keep it juicy when you slice it.
02 - Don't overcook the shrimp - they cook fast and can get rubbery if overdone. They're done when pink and opaque.
03 - Adjust the Cajun seasoning to your heat preference - start with less if you're sensitive to spice.
04 - The sauce uses the flavorful bits left in the pan from cooking the steak and shrimp, so don't clean the pan between steps!
05 - This is perfect for Valentine's Day, anniversaries, or any special romantic dinner at home.
06 - Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, or crusty bread to soak up that amazing sauce.
