01 -
Add the ground beef to a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it's completely browned and no longer pink. Once it's cooked through, carefully drain off all the grease.
02 -
Stir in the Taco Bell taco seasoning packet along with the amount of water specified on the packet - usually around 2/3 cup. Mix well so the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the meat.
03 -
Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the meat and seasoning mixture simmer uncovered for 8 to 10 minutes. Stir occasionally as it thickens to prevent sticking. Once it's nicely thickened, remove from heat.
04 -
Lightly toast the hamburger buns on a skillet, griddle, or in a toaster until they just start to brown. This is optional but really helps prevent soggy sandwiches!
05 -
Place one-fourth of the seasoned taco meat on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Drizzle 1 tablespoon of Taco Bell mild sauce evenly over the meat on each sandwich.
06 -
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the hot taco meat so it starts to melt. Add the finely diced onions next, followed by the shredded lettuce on top - adding lettuce last keeps it nice and crisp.
07 -
Top each sandwich with the other bun half and serve immediately. These are best enjoyed hot and fresh!
