→ For the Cake Pops

04 - Vanilla frosting
05 - Red candy melts
06 - Blue candy melts
07 - White candy melts
08 - 30 holiday straws or drink stirs
09 - Sprinkles for decoration

# Instructions:

01 - Prepare the vanilla cake mix according to the directions on the box.
02 - Divide the batter into three equal portions. Color one portion red, one portion blue, and leave the third portion white.
03 - Bake each colored batter in 8-inch round pans as directed on the cake mix box. Allow the cakes to cool completely before proceeding.
04 - Once cooled, crumble each colored cake into fine crumbs in separate bowls.
05 - Mix 1 tablespoon of vanilla frosting into each bowl of crumbled cake. If the mixture won't form a ball when pressed, add 1 teaspoon more frosting at a time until it holds together.
06 - Using a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop, make 10 cake balls of each color - 10 red, 10 blue, and 10 white. You'll have 30 balls total.
07 - Cut each cake ball into three slices. Press together one red slice, one white slice, and one blue slice and gently roll into a ball. Don't swirl them - just press them together so they stick. You'll end up with 30 patriotic cake balls with the colors showing.
08 - Cover the cake balls with wax paper and place in the refrigerator while you prepare the candy melts. This makes them easier to dip.
09 - Pour a bag of red candy melts into a glass or ceramic mug and microwave for 1 minute. Stir and then heat again at 70% power for 45 seconds. Stir until completely smooth.
10 - Repeat the melting process with a bag of blue candy melts in a separate container.
11 - Repeat the melting process with a bag of white candy melts in a third separate container.
12 - Remove the chilled cake balls from the fridge. Dip one of the decorative sticks into the melted candy and insert it into a cake ball. Repeat for all 30 cake pops. Try dipping 10 sticks into red, 10 into blue, and 10 into white for variety.
13 - Dunk each cake pop into its corresponding colored melted candy, tap off the excess, and immediately add sprinkles if desired.
14 - For swirled cake pops, work quickly! Dip into white candy, then quickly drizzle some red and some blue over the white coating. Shake off excess candy over wax paper.
15 - Stand up the decorated cake pops upright like candy apples or place them in a cake pop stand to dry and harden.
16 - Serve these festive patriotic cake pops at your next 4th of July party!

# Notes:

01 - These festive cake pops are the perfect 4th of July party dessert with their patriotic red, white, and blue colors.
02 - The combination of red, white, and blue cake in each pop makes them truly patriotic without being swirled.
03 - Using a cookie scoop ensures uniform cake ball sizes so they all dip evenly.
04 - Keeping the cake pops chilled before dipping makes them sturdier and easier to work with.
05 - Melting candy in the microwave in 1-minute intervals with stirring prevents burning and scorching.
06 - These can be made a day or two ahead and stored in an airtight container at room temperature.
