Sausage Bread (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ For the Filling

01 - 1 lb ground sausage
02 - 2 tbsp olive oil
03 - 3 garlic cloves, minced
04 - 1 tbsp Italian seasoning, plus 1 tsp for topping
05 - Salt and pepper to taste

→ For Assembly

06 - 1 prepared pizza dough
07 - Flour for dusting
08 - 5 to 6 slices provolone cheese
09 - 5 to 6 slices mozzarella cheese
10 - 1 egg, beaten

# Instructions:

01 - Turn your oven to 350 degrees and let it preheat while you get everything ready.
02 - Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add your ground sausage and break it up into small crumbles as it cooks. When it's browned all the way through, toss in the minced garlic, salt, pepper, and a tablespoon of Italian seasoning. Cook for one more minute until everything smells amazing. Drain off any extra grease if needed.
03 - Dust a clean counter with flour and put your pizza dough on top. Use a rolling pin to roll it out into a rectangle shape. Don't worry about making it perfect.
04 - Lay your provolone slices across the dough, leaving about half an inch around all the edges so you can seal it later.
05 - Put the mozzarella slices on top of the provolone. Then sprinkle your cooked sausage evenly over all the cheese.
06 - Starting from one long side, roll the dough up like a jelly roll. Tuck the ends in as you go so nothing falls out. Place it seam side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
07 - Brush the beaten egg all over the top of the bread. Sprinkle the remaining teaspoon of Italian seasoning on top for extra flavor.
08 - Put it in the oven and bake for 25 minutes. You want the top to turn golden brown and the dough to cook all the way through.
09 - Let the sausage bread sit for about 10 minutes after you take it out. This helps everything set up so it doesn't fall apart when you slice it. Cut into pieces and serve warm.

# Notes:

01 - Use mild or spicy Italian sausage depending on your preference.
02 - Store-bought pizza dough from the refrigerated section works perfectly for this.
03 - Don't skip the resting time before slicing or all the filling will spill out.
04 - Serve with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
05 - Leftovers reheat great in the oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes.
