Perfect Onions Every Time

My secret is patience when caramelizing onions. Keep the heat low stir occasionally and let them do their thing. That splash of brandy at the end makes all the difference.

Serving Ideas

We love this with a simple green salad on the side. Don't forget crusty bread for soaking up all those amazing juices. A glass of white wine makes it feel extra special.

Keep It Fresh

Leftovers stay good for three days in the fridge they actually get even better. Just warm portions in the microwave when you're ready for round two.

Plan Ahead

You can prep everything early just save the final bake till dinner time. It's perfect for those busy days when you want something special but time is tight.

Make It Your Own

Sometimes I use turkey when that's what I have. Adding roasted carrots or peas brings nice color. If you can't find Gruyère other melty cheeses work beautifully too.

Kitchen Tools

A good nonstick pan makes all the difference for those onions. You'll need a nice big pot for the rice and a deep casserole dish. My wooden spoon is my trusty companion through it all.

Good For You Too

This dish gives you everything protein from chicken calcium from that gorgeous cheese plus all the goodness from spinach and onions. Pure comfort food that loves you back.

Extra Tips

Don't skip deglazing the onion pan those brown bits are pure gold. A splash of cream makes everything silky. Watch your rice texture too much water makes it mushy.

Regular Swiss cheese works well as a substitute. You could also use a combination of provolone and mozzarella for a similar melty texture and flavor.

Rotisserie chicken works perfectly in this recipe. Just shred or cut it into bite-sized pieces and use it as directed in the recipe. It's a great time-saver.

Long-grain white rice works best for this recipe. It maintains its texture while absorbing all the delicious flavors. Avoid instant rice as it may become too mushy.
